I just read my own post...I did not pro-seal the joint between the glass and rollbar, it was between the glass and the aft top skin.

Man I need some caffeine!!!

Looking for me? I will be here....

Yesterday was a major milestone in my life with the RV addiction. I have decided to opt-out of participating in the VAF forum. I have participated in that forum since all the way back in the Yahoo Group days some 11 or more years ago.

Even though I have never met Doug face to face, I consider him my friend and it seems that we have some different ideas on a few things which have put a strain on our friendship. Since it is Doug's sandbox, he has every right to run that forum just as he wants and I have no reason to question anything that goes on over there. My only vote in the matter is to either participate or not.

So in an effort to salvage my relationship and honor with Doug, I chose not to participate any further.

Do not take this as a derogative against Doug or the VAF as Doug has done nothing wrong. There is just some issues with the foundation of the rules and moderation that I do not agree with and that means that I must go.
Please do not take this as an opportunity to make derogatory statements about Doug or the VAF. If you want to talk about this, please PM me.

Last night I knocked out the flap position sensor. Installed, connected, wired and setup and working on the Dynon...

1 more down, a million more to go!

The rear window turned out great!!! The pro-seal around the back where it touches the aft top skin worked great. There is no pillowing and the seal is 100%.

Last night I got my trim system completed, wired, calibrated and working with the Dynon. I had never connected the wires to the switch or the Dynon. Those darn Ray Allen people need to stop using that dang small wire on their devices!!!!

1 more down a million more to go...

Does the RA trim system work with the Dynon like it says it will in the 180 manual? Do I have to be as smart as you to get it to work?

Lance,

I put manual trim in my RV-6A and I am thankfull I went manual.
The trim is used so little that electric tirm is overkill unless you are going with an auto pilot installation. A friend of mine has electric trim on his RV-6A and is looking to modify it or slow it down.

I went with the electric and an autopilot, but they are two complete different systems. I got the RA speed controller, so I will see how it goes. I didn't like any of the options for a knob in the 8, so I went electric.

Progress!!!!

Post by Brantel »

I was off all week on vacation and I spent at least 12 hours a day Mon-Sat working on the plane......here is the list:

• finished the rudder cable install and connection
• installed the lower fairing under the horizontal stab (used screws and coped the fairing to fit without a seal)
• installed the adel clamps on the rudder cable tube where it exits the skin
• installed the data plate, n numbers, experimental sticker and panel warning labels
• rigged all the flight controls, torque all tube jam nuts and torque sealed them all
• installed the wingtip ribs and the wingtips for good
• safetied the flap hinge pins
• cotters in all the brake system under the panel
• tightened all the braided brake hoses
• blead the brakes
• drilled and cottered the axle nuts
• riveted on the front top skin
• applied an sanded filler to hide the tipup air scoops at 10 & 2
• finalized all wiring and loomed everything up behind the panel
• installed cotter pins on the engine mount nuts on the engine side
• installed the cabin heat cable to the heat box
• installed carb heat cable to the airbox
• pulled the covering off the canopy
• pulled all that blue plastic crap off the airplane
• installed the pitot mast and the pitot
• installed perm. bolts in the canopy hinges along with cotter pins

* weighed the airplane (1023 lbs)

* taxied the airplane around the airport to seat the brakes

* full power static runup produced 2130 rpm

* inspection is scheduled for 3/13!

That is awesome--you are real close!!

Is that what you expected from the static runup? I don't remember your specifics.

That thing is light!!

No paint helps a little...

O-360 with a metal FP 72*85 prop, 1350ft elevation, full rich on a carb.

I guess that is a good rpm for those conditions????

Outstanding work Brian.

That is a great EW. I'm hopeful to get under 1075# with a C/S.

All You Can Upload dumped the old pics.

Post by Brantel »

Sorry for those that may try and look at the history in this thread but "AllYouCanUpload" dot com has been removed from the web....Webshots took down that older pic hosting site and basically left millions and millions of broken links scattered all over the Internet...

Not a cool thing to do since they said the pics would always be available :x
