spar scratch

Post by aparchment »

Hey guys:

I have a scratch on my spar that is about an eight of an inch wide, about .02 deep at its deepest point and 3-4 inches long. The factory polished it before it arrived and it is anodized, but the depth concerns me. What do you think?

i would think that if the factory polished it, and anodized over it AFTER they noticed it enough to polish it, it's probably ok. got a pic?

Here are a few pics guys.

The folks at Van's said that it is an authorized repair if it is polished and anodized over. It just doesn't make me feel comfortable to see any flaws on such a critical part.

It's tough to see due to the brightness of the photo, but the scratch is up to .02 deep at points.

Ya, the web's only function is to hold the top and bottom caps from moving in relation to each other. So, if you think these scratches will stop the web from accomplishing it's intended purpose, then replace it.

On my quickbuild wings I have a scratch in the actual spar cap, courtesy of the Philipinos. I will dress it out and move on. These wings are plenty strong.
