Builder's remorse - 8 years later

So I'm flying around in my RV-4 and really enjoying it. Been flying it for almost 3 years, took me 5 years to build. But I look at all my chunky buddies and have to tell them they are basically too fat to fly in my plane. I'm fatter than all of them. Imagine Papa Keith about 2 feet shorter and you have me.

Sure wish I could give them a ride.

Then I think about my wife actually starting to like flying but we can't take any baggage with us. If something happens to me, she really can't control the plane from back there. Not much luggage room at all.

Now add in the lack of cool accessories (kroker sun shade, et al)

I'm starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't start building an RV-7. Whaddya' think?

If you plan on keeping the -4 I would go for that bush plane you always wanted instead. If you plan on selling the -4 then definitely do the -7.

Actually, I was going to say that if you are keeping the 4 then I recommend a 9. No matter which RV though, check out the W&B before you decide.

I have the same problem with weight, however, I am not short so the RV-4 would not be an option for me. (not that anyone would want to build one now that the 8 is available.

)

I went and did the weight and balance on all of the RVs. By my calculations I would either need to diet or not carry any bagage for any of the two place RVs. Which is why the RV-10 looks so attractive to me. Plus it is has more room for my fat butt

However, looking at my budget... looks like I will need to build an 8 and cut out lunches.

No offense PK. Trust me, I'd make you look svelt!

I really like the looks of that bearhawk. That would be a great plane if you put some tundra tires on it. Then you could be like the BushWheel guys. Bushwheel Movies

But at 325, if you can make me look svelt . . . .

The only thing I can't find on the BearHawk site is cost. How much does a kit cost?

I think the QB kit is around 33k. That's wings, fuselage, gear, emp, and a bunch of other stuff.

I've got some literature(PDF) with prices around somewhere, if you are interested I can try to hunt it up and mail the files to you.
