CJ, I like the idea but am concerned about leg space/room. I have long legs and I know that if the panel has the extenson that many put on the bottom it really bothers me due to lack of knee room. I'm afraid this might fall in the same category but plan on checking it out before deciding for sure.

I was thinking about a center console as well John. I would like to sit in a plane that has one. Although the RV is roomy for us, ahem, stocky guys, I am not sure we can afford to lose that much leg room. Of course the Diamonstar DA 40 that I fly is about the same size as the RV and it has a center console that is very comfortable to fly with.
FYI there is a guy out there who does a complete center console, complete with map compartment, throttle quadrant and mixture control. You have probably seen it already, but if not I will try to find the link.
That's the one. The other problem I see, besides impinging on leg room, is that the throttle quadrant is a little too far aft. I think it should fall closer to your knee.
Those quadrants do look cool but I always wonder how he is going to hang upside down under his instrument panel to do any work? The only quadrant I would consider is the one I've seen that is hanging directly off the instrument panel. But then that one is just a knee waiting to get bruised! I'd like a quadrant but I'll probably just go with the vernier controls. Low profile and simple.

FWIW I was talking to a guy at OSH that had one of those DJM throttle quads hanging from the panel... I commented on how I liked it and was thinking of doing the same. He then made the comment that if I were planning on doing any formation work in my plane, that he would suggest the lever over the vernier controls as your finger will get sore modulating the vernier throttle while in formation. Don't know if is a big deal, but I hadn't thought of that.
Why not just put a throttle quad on the left side and one on th right. I have seen photo's of it done before somewhere. Looked ok to me. Yeah, maybe a bit more weight but throttle in the left hand is where it should be.
Or......you could just have the one throttle if you won't fly with another pilot or just build an 8 as well......
