Will,

It is good to see a good, old fashioned WOODEN JIG again!

I thought I was the last one to go the wooden route since everyone else was making the steel jigs now!

Looks GREAT!

Isnt the wood subject to warpage which could affect the wings in fixture?

Tom, Naaaahhhh... it is soooo negligible, really.

My jigs remained rock solid and true to form for one year.

Disregard any rumors or skepticism to that effect.

Do I make myself CLEAR!?!

Thanks guys. This is feeling like a major milestone for me. I hemmed and hawed around about actually getting this done. Not sure why 8)

I don't think the wood will warp, but if it does its no biggie as the whole thing is adjustable at all attach points and I didn't have to drill into the floor (used construction adhesive - thanks Brad). I can monitor for twist/warpage with the plum bobs and the level.

So....... I just ordered another 400 clecoes :(

And a longeron yoke

Why does it feel so good to buy tools?

Nice Will! They look great and I'm sure they will work great also. Looks like you mounted the wings pretty high. How high is the top of the front sapr from the floor. Just curious.

JR,

About 4.5 feet from forward spar to floor. Since most of the leading edge ribs and skins are assembled on the bench, I'm hoping I'll be good.

Lots easier to work on the main skins if they are up off the floor a bit 8)

Although, you've been thru it. What say ya?

You should be fine ... you will just have to stand on a stool to do a few things like the joiner plate, etc.
No big deal. That is a little higher than mine ... just riveted the top skins on the L wing today and it would be fine if it was higher.

They looked like about 24" from the rear spar to the floor to me. Mine were 18" from the rear spar to the floor. The dog was able to walk under them without really banging them and it was a reasonable height for riveting, I thought.

Another 6" would require you to stand on a milk crate from time to time when doing some things like Duckworks lights and other leading edge stuff.

Yeah, but like Thomas said, all the leading edge stuff can be done on the bench except the joint plate. I did all my riveting and landing light work on the bench. No problems Will, I think that is a fine height!

Agreed, I think the height is fine too!

I did my DW lights while the LE's were attached with clecos. This gave me a rock solid bench to work on.

Looks great. I got lazy and used what I had. Those EAA benches are fantastic. Oh! one last note: rivet the top panels on first before putting the leading edge on, that way you don't have to worry about sag.

I thught they looked a little higher than mine were. Should work fine. Mine were a pain in the back until dug an old office chair to sit on while working on the wings, then they were just right.

Have fun!

Now that I've got all four skins on the left wing, I've found it works best to use an old office (short) chair to do the holes near the floor.

I gotta say that I am amazed at how well the skins went on. EVERY hole lined up perfectly. Amazing.

That cuz YOU did a good job fluting. So pat yourself on the back. Me, I had coupla ribs that needed some coaxing.
