HS Rear Spar Construction

Post by Andy G »

quick question. I began riveting the rearhs spar reinforcment to the rear spar. If you look on drawing three, rear view, the 3rd hole over has a label above it that states "Fuselage attach drill in assembly w F-711C". I looked at a few sites and it looks as though you do put rivets in these holes, and the plans (as I read them) only tell you to tape over the rib and hinge attach points.

At this point, I'm going to rivet those holes, just wanted to run it by you guys.

Enjoy your Turkey Day,

Drawing 3 is tucked away pretty deep at this point, but without looking at it I am guessing you can't go wrong.

As I recall, the holes get enlarged to a #12 or 10 for an AN 3 Bolt anyways!

Sooooooo, I dunno if that helps or not?

Andy, look at view A-A. It shows that those are the holes that get drilled out to 3/16 later. I did not rivet mine.

I don't have my drawings with me, so I can't check to make sure, all I have is access to my pictures, but if you mean the third hole from the center, I left those rivets out for now. If you have to drill them out, it shouldn't be a problem since the holes have to get larger anyway, and you have access to both sides. I seem to remember reading that note, and leaving the rivets out on purpose though.

I'll take a look at view A-A. I already put one in, then had to run off to work. No sweat, It won't take much to drill it out.

I took a look on Checkoway's site. If you look at tht pic that shows the shop heads all in on the rear HS sapr, you can see that he put rivets in the third hole (over from the center bolts), part of why I went ahead w/ it.

Seeing as how you guys are well beyond that phase, and now into the phase that allows you to verify that indeed I will need to drill those out, that's what I'll go with.

Thanks for the support fellas,
