Let the MATING PROCESS... BEGIN!

Well, it has been a busy day. Thanks to Bill H. for coming down this afternoon and helping me rivet the skin onto the bottom of the center section!

After returning from dinner at my favorite local restaurant, I whipped up the jig/worktable. I know that many people simply use sawhorses, but I didn't want this thing to do a DIGGER!

It is fairly high off the ground. I figured, with my bad back I had better make it tall. Crawling underneath it is sport for the YOUNG!

Long day... I need to clean up the shop and go to bed.

Tomorrow I will mess with the longerons and see if I can fit them onto the whole shootin' match!

That's lookin' great CJ! I do like how you have it set up for easy access underneath. I'm headin' to Menard's tomorrow to buy some saw horses (mine were junk, and I trashed 'em last fall...) so I can start the tailcone. I'll keep your "jig/table" in mind as I think something similar to that would work well in the back of my garage down the road.

Way to go Johny! Glad I could waste some of your time this afternoon. I found the electrical discussion very helpful, and thanks for helping me troubleshoot the Drill Doctor.

Geez that pic of me reminds me of the Wilson character in the Tim Allen Tool Time TV series.

Looks (and I bet feels) really good to get those pieces going together. I think I am going to make some sort of rotisserie for mine (when I get to it), I prefer making the work take on strange positions rather than me, things just don't bend the way they used and not hurt. :)

Chad, the table is just what you need, IMHO.

Dave, sounds great! I would like to catch up and formulate a plan for proceeding. I think I may do a slight deviation in process for accuracy of assemble. Your opinion is appreciated!

Don, this is a bit tall, but I think I am gonna like it there!

Will, it is a combination of both. The bulkheads are VariPrime and the tailcone & center section is Nason.

I am staying with Nason for the remainder of the project.

I will keep you guys apprised of my changes in processes, should there be one.

I can't believe the difference matched hole construction has made on building RV's!

Why, in MY day, we used a fuselage fixture!!! WE didn't do any TAIL CONE-CENTER SECTION mating!!

Back in the day we had to walk the fuselage home from Van's on our backs . . . up hill . . . both ways.

Back then Van's just sold bauxite and we had to go to his garage factory to refine the ore and make the aluminum. We even had to cast the rivets.

Damn spoilt kids. You need all this stuff to make it fly do you?

CJ, are you still building right-side up? Workin' out ok?

I'm wondering why in the world Van's has you build the canoe upside-down, other than possibly easier access to the inside?

Chad, yes! I am still building right side up. No issues yet. Not sure there will be any either! Things are lining up well and it is easier on my back to boot!

I have no idea why he wants you to build it upside down, quite honestly.

I can tell you this... it is getting FRICKEN HEAVY!

Steve, it is looking GREAT!!!

One day, we will all be on the ramp at OSH together! Almost hard to believe!

It really feels like we are building an airplanes now, huh guys?

It's hard to believe that I started this project in August, now I'm thinking, how do I afford the engine. Really kool. I'm looking forward to my first cross country in the 7.

Well, I decided to just leave it upside down, and with the help of my wife, we joined the two sections last night! Longerons and all!
