Finally made some progress

Post by svanarts »

I had a rough week at work trying to get a computer virus under control so it was very gratifiying to get into the garage and finish the rudder! Here's an update on what Heaventh Seven looks like:

Actually we had a pretty bad freeze just a month or two ago that killed off most of the citrus crop in California. The grass is just greening back up. Since then the temps have been real mild. They'd be downright warm for you Canuks and New Englanders; it was about 65 degrees outside.

That's why I had to wear the sweatshirt. :)

Back to topic: the rudder looks good from a distance. It ain't going to be a show winner but the work isn't all that bad either. Just a few little waves in the rudder's trailing edge. Nothing measurable but not razor straight either.

O come on, I think his work looks very good. I went and missed the back plate when I did one of the stiffners. Ouch!. The only comment I have is on the blue stuff. Might as well take that stuff off, after all if you are going to paint, the whole plane gets sanded down before you can paint anything, guess what, all that work you did to cut out the blue, wasted time, better to put it into building the plane. And yes I to started out cutting out the blue and leaving it on. Now I just remove it as soon as I can and build away.

Same for me Steve. I remove the blue before I do anything else. I hate peeling that stuff off though!

In Scott's case, his 4 has remained unpainted for quite some time, so maybe a polished 7 is in the works?? 8)

Light is fast! I'm undecided. Most of the plane will be painted but I've really taken a liking to some of the retro paint jobs I've seen. They have a little color on the nose and fiberglass bits, maybe some accent stripes but the majority is unpainted. Looks nice! It will all boil down to how many smiley's I build into this plane.

I'm going to try to get the RV-4 painted this year one way or the other.
