Check out these Bad Larry's!

I whipped up a couple of tie down holders (per plans) tonight!

They should hold my stainless tie down rings fairly securely while stowed, huh?

I'm not a -7 biulder, not even a -anything builder yet, but... For those who ar kicking themselves for not doing that already and have put that down already, would a rivnut work?
Rivnut pullers are kinda expensive to buy if you only need it once or twice, but for those who already have a blind rivet hand squeezer, you can buy a mandrel for a maybe a dollar and can use that to install rivnuts.
I bought a $130+ tool to install one rivnut on a KingAir :bang: and when I opened the box, its just a pop rivet gun with five or six mandrels (for different sizes)
Many probably have known that a rivnut might work and/or about those tools. But for those who don't... now you do.

riv nut is an option and i have an installer but i want self locking and if i put locktite on it then it will possibly turn if i ever want to take it off for maint. still may use it. i am really picky on stuff in the flight controls area. dont want no stick on stuff for sure. even though the good stuff (3M)
holds body side molding on for years in an extreme range of temps. just wont bet my lif on it. :|

the 'good' rivnuts have the notch on them, so if you're turning the rivnut, you're tearing sheetmetal. and there are locking rivnuts. That's all I have ever used were notched locking rivnuts (contersunk mostly, come to think of it). Have to get them though an aircraft supplier I think. I went to Fastenal because I needed one in a hurry. Ordered exact Mil- number I needed. I got the 'equilvent' a steel (not aluminum) non-notched crap thing that looked nothing like a aircraft rivnut. Fastenal swore it would work. Needless to say I waited and got an aircraft rivnut.

Do rivnuts come in 3/8" - 16?

I know platenuts don't.

Some Excellent info on that site. I had to bookmark it for future reference. Some people may consider this act to be nerdy. Those people never built anything.

I was wondering the same thing, CJ... where'd you get those rings? How much were they, if you don't mind?

I just happened to be in the market for some SS eye bolts, and came across this place online: http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com The local hardware store had some for $1.3x, Lowes had them for something like $.88, and this place had them for $1.18. When I called, the person on the phone let me know that all of their eye bolts were made in the U.S., I'm sure the ones at Lowes are made in that large country in Asia
