Canopy weldment/C-702 skin misalignment

Post by gsimatos »

The tip up canopy weldment has a tubular cross member on the aft of the structure. The plans ask that you cleco the C-702 skin on and the holes at the back of the skin should fall on top of this tube. I have just put these parts together and the tube is a full 1/4 inch too far forward. Any ideas how to proceed with this? I am going to call Van's and see if maybe I got the wrong part or perhaps from a different model. It is way off now and I just don't see how I can make it work. Thanks G

If it's that far off all the way across, it sounds like it wasn't welded properly in the jig. I wouldn't be for a different model as all tip ups use the same frame. If it's not right, Van's will take care of it.

Talked to Van's and they say to use some gentle persuasion (which I can't spell). I will give it another go tomorrow and let ya know how I do. Thanks for you help on my latest problem. Cheers G
