RV want-a-be

Post by mrogers »

I am wanting to begin building a RV7. I have no previous experience in such a project. Could someone give me some advice on how I should proceed? Maybe a weekend building class? Find a mentor???
Please help to put a RV smile on my face!

Mr. Rogers, Welcome to the neighborhood. Can you say "Great fun", I knew you could.

Where are you located? maybe someone on here is near you. Find when/where the local EAA chapter meets and go make some friends.

Welcome to the group.

Try checking out the "User Map" feature here at rivetbangers and that may help locate someone near you.

I was in the same boat as you back when I wanted to build something.
I visited a few projects within driving distance, helped them with theirs, attended a few workshops, and practiced on scrap before doing it for real on any new process or assembly.

1. Visit someone's project, see what it's all about.
2. See if there's a local EAA chapter where you live.
3. Use the search feature here and on VAF site and read, read read.
4. If you still want to build, buy some of the quality tools, and purchase the tail kit first.
5. If you are happy with how the tail kit is coming along, then go all in.

Welcome From Minnesota

Post by Bob Barrett »

I live in Minnesota and bleong to the Minnesota Wing of Van's Airforce. We have members from Wisconsin, Iowa, North and South Dakota. We meet quarterly generally in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. There are other groups available elsewhere. You can check on Van's website for connections near where you live. I welcome visitors and hope to have my airplane RV-6A inspected yet this week. However there are others under construction here and about 100 plus flying RV's. You can also look around for a Van's kit that someone has started and set aside. A through inspection would be in order. However sometimes you might save enough to make it worthwile to purchase replacement pieces where needed. Good Luck! :| :)
