Pitot/AOA tubing and wires

Post by hydroguy2 »

Finished up riveting the right wing, so on to the left. Got all the snap bushing in place, then figured out the Dynon AOA/Pitot tubing connections and routing.

Pulled the all the wiring.

Should be ready to close out this wing on Tuesday.

Nice! I've been trying to figure out how I want to connect the plastic to the aluminum tubing so that it's easy to remove the pitot. It's one of those situations where I have an idea in my head that I don't really think will work, but I can't get it out of my head :bang: The way you bent the plastic tubes looks like a good way to go about it :)

Kelly, Trying to make the connections while reaching my fat hands through the inspection hole was a no-go.

By doing it this way, I am able to pull the tubing up through the mast, make the connections and insert the pitot back in place. then it's a simple bolt holding the clamps.

How are you insulating the plastic tubing from the heat of the pitot ?

FYI, no need to insulate the plastic tubes on the Dynon heated pitot tube. I ran a test and the tubes never get anywhere near hot enough to melt the plastic.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I had the idea in my head to have the connections IN the mast, so you would only have to pull it down a couple of inches, but I didn't like the idea of the plastic tubes chaffing on the top corner of the mast. What's a couple more inches? I still need to get the proper flaring tool before I can make any connections anyway :)

chaffing

Post by hydroguy2 »

To help reduce chaffing, I use nylon spiral wrap. Here's a pic of the pitot/AOA tubes wrapped together, it really adds stiffness to these flimsy tubes.

I also wrapped the wires and tubing where it passes the bellcrank
