Tearing my hair out looking for some odd sized rivets for RV7 QB. The number is I think: AN 426-4-10. These are flat head and pretty long and go in to the edge of the fuselage just behind the roll bar on the tip up. I usually try to locate the part number and bag on the packing list. Should be there but just not seeing it. If anyone knows which bag number has these rivets I would sure appreciate it. Also I saw a comment on the most recent topic saying something about "good" quick build fuselage I guess as opposed to 'not so good" Has there been issues with the quality of the QB fuselage??
Thanks Gary

I recall doing the bag search for those rivts also, but don't remember where I found them...But it was there somewhere.gsimatos wrote:.......Also I saw a comment on the most recent topic saying something about "good" quick build fuselage ............. I made the concerning the statment about "good" QB's, it was meant to be "tongue in cheek" comment since many people are now waiting for QB's from the big Phillipines factory fiasco. they have no idea when the shipments will arrive or if the same people were building them. I have never actually heard of a "bad QB".

OK I will do the packing slip/bag boogie again. I know once I scrounge up these darn rivets the right bag will magically appear. The QB issue hasn't been a problem for me. The fuselage I think was assembled very well. Wish I could consistently pound rivets that well. Thanks for your comments.

Do you have solid rivet cutters such as these?gsimatos wrote:Tearing my hair out looking for some odd sized rivets for RV7 QB. The number is I think: AN 426-4-10.

What I do is keep a stash of the most common size/length rivets I commonly use such as 4-3, 4-4, 4-5, 4-6, and 4-8. I then usually also keep some 4-16's around for anything else in between and cut to the proper length as needed.
If you have cutters, let me know, and I can see what I have in my stash and work something out.

Oh, the number I use would be MS20426AD 4-*. These are 100 degree countersunk head aluminum solid rivet with one single dimple for ID purposes.
The other number is NAS1097AD4-*, which is also a 100 degree countersunk head aluminum solid rivet with one single dimple for ID purposes. The difference with these, the head is smaller and doesnt require quite as deep of a countersink in your metal. I believe you homebuilders refer to them as "Oops Rivets".

I did the "packing slip/bag boogie" once or twice, and had enough. (Great term by the way
). I got electronic lists of all of Vans parts, their costs (from "The List"), and the bag numbers, and built a spreadsheet. Now if I need a part I search the spreadsheet for the P/N, which allows me to cross reference the bag number. Now I don't spend more than 15 or 20 seconds looking for parts (unless they aren't in their bags). HUGE timesaver.

When I use my rivet cutter, it leaves a "canted" end on the rivet. Sometimes this can produce a problem for me when installing the rivet.
I usually square up the rivet on the scotchbrite wheel afterward.
YMMV...

I have had that problem as well. Though, many times it appears to be because I allow the rivet to "shift" once the cutter starts applying a decent amount of pressure on it.
