rear spar

Post by gramps »

While attempting to trial fit my wings yesterday, I found that the rear spar stub on the wing hits the spacer bar in the fuse. It looks like I need to trim some off the wing stub but I'm not about to do that without some more answers. It looks like I need maybe a half inch or so more to go before the bolts holes line up in the front spar. I also found a drawing on someones web page showing where to trim 19/32off the stub. That seems like quite a coincidence to me. Could some one tell me what page that is on? I have a set of early plans and may not have the latest info. Was this a revision that came later or did I have a brain fart when I put this rascal together? Like I said, I'm aint trimming nuthin til I find out sumpin. Any help from the class would be much appreciated.

I don't have details or facts but I have heard multiple times of this being necessary. I am sure someone will come along with more details.

You do need to trim that spar stub...it's on the current drawing, but if you have an early version, it may not be there. If no one else can get you a pic of the drawing before I can get to my computer with the drawings on it, I'll post it for ya...

Here is pics taken just before I trimmed mine. You can kind of make out the scribed lines in the black sharpie lines. I don't recall the exact measurements, but can look later when I'm in the shop

Be very careful here before the trim. The plans are a little deceiving on the measurements. Better to leave a little on there and file it back than to take too much off. The "window" of edge distance on all four pieces is quite small.

Don't be like me.
