Question - Vent Line Fitting Washer interference

I was fitting my wing root fairing and ran into something here. The big washer under the vent line fitting sticks out beyond the leading edge of the wing root fairing. I don't have the rubber seal strip yet, but I'm sure it will run into this and cause a problem. Here are some pics to illustrate:

I went back and studied drawing 36A in detail, and there are definitely two washers called for here. Back when I installed this fitting it made sense to me at the time to put one on the outside of the skin and one on the inside, sandwiching the skin in between them. When I studied them again today, the drawings aren't clear on this at all.

You guys who are beyond this point, what did you do here? Did you relocate both washers inside the skin? That just seems weird to me. Or does the rubber seal fit without a problem here in spite of this washer?

I put mine internal to help with the vent fitting/line routing.

I trimmed my washers back to allow the rubber channel to fit. I'm searching for a pic of it...I know I have one...

This isn't the pic I'm thinking of, but you can sorta see that the washer is trimmed so the root fairing doesn't rub...

I never thought of trimming that washer down, Chad. That's a great idea. I wrote to Vans, too. I'll let you know what they say.

Just turn the bulkhead fitting around to put the washer on the inside.

*EDIT* - never mind, just re-read and saw the comment about TWO washers. I didn't run my vents this way so I'm gonna sit down and shutup now....

Why not use some cadnium plated steel ones on the outside instead?

They are smaller and once you paint them are unlikely to streak rust down the side of the fuse. If they do, paint them again.

Dissimilar metals? Trimming the AL's is easy, and not a structural issue.
