The wings are complete, with the exception of the fiberglass tips. I have opted to make the fiberglass tips removable.
I know Van's encourages you to wait till the end of the project to attach the tips; however, I do not have the fuselage yet and would love to get this work done. I was planning on get the tips installed and then removing them and storing them.
Is this a bad idea?
Also, I put the fiberglass tips on "loosly"; and noticed that the trailing edge of the aileron and trailing edge of the wing tip did not align. It was off by about 1/8". It does not appear that I have 1/8"....
Any suggestions on getting things to align?
Thanks

Wing Tip Installation
That is why you wait. You need to get the ailerons on and rigged before you can really get the tips fitted well.

If you have the ailerons set properly, you can go ahead and mount the tips....BUT I would not prep them for paint until the wings have been installed once. I had to adjust one tip trailing edge to get it where I liked it. This was after I thought I had everything lined up very well. YMMV

Trailing edges do not match
I have fitted the right wing tip; and I am almost ready to drill; however, the trailing edge of the fiberglass tip sticks out past the trailing edge of the aileron by 1/4" or so. Did anybody else have this problem?
This is not going to be a blue ribbon airplane by no stretch of the imagination; however, I strive to make things look good. In most of the photos I see online; it appears that the trailing edge of the fiberglass tip lines up with the aileron.
So what is the trick?

Yes I had to hack the trailing edge off mine..both sides. Get the leading edge fit as tight as possible. Start your drilling at the front top and work your way back. After you drill and cleco 4 or 5 holes on top, move to the bottom to drill 4 or 5 underneath. then jump back to the top. Remember you can see the top make it fit best. When you are done, you may have to slice, dice or chop the trailing edge to make it look right.
