NOT ONE comment about the girls!?!
Man, you guys ARE airplane nuts!!! hahaha
Anyways, as promised... Sikaflex pictures:
First, I traced the outline of the plexi onto the forward skin after painting it with my glareshield coating.
I then scuffed, cleaned and primed both surfaces. The primer seems to be some kind of adhesion promoter. No big deal really. Some kind of black paint consistency and you just brush it on. Then I "DOOPED" if you will, a bead of Sikaflex 295 UV onto the surface and laid the bubble on top of it. I must admit, I did it alone but try to have somebody else there to help guide it onto the product. I got lucky is all. It is kinda like proseal in the way that if you get it onto anything else... good luck getting it off!!!
I added another bead ahead of the bubble for added strength and aesthestics and "tooled" it for good looks. Put a little masking tape where you want the bead to end so that you can peel it off later and leave a nice clean bead behind.
In the end, the product looks like a factory-made gasket! I might just doll it up with some sheet metal instead of going the fiberglass route! My Buddy Bill is a sheet metal wizard and he would probably be able to bend a really cool one piece fairing for the leading edge. If so, this would really get some attention at the fuel pumps!
Sooooo, whatcha think?
BTW, Mattituck got my engine order today. I ordered a 180 HP injected ECI engine with a Superior Forward Facing Sump.
That oughtta get things moving!!!
