Double Sided Tape?

Post by s10sakota »

It's been a month since I've worked on the RV and mostly it's because I've been dreading making this elevator trim tab. But...I have to do it sometime!

Today I made the wooded blocks that get inserted into the L elev skin to bend over the tabs.

I'm suppose to use double sided tape so the blocks don't move. I've checked a few stores and all I can find is the 1/16" thick double sided foam tape. That's not going to work.

Where can I get thin double sided tape? What have you guys used?

Thanks!

Mark,

I used double-sided tape that is used to hold down carpet. It is very strong. However, my recommendation is to ditch the idea of bending all those tabs. Cut the tabs off, make some riblets and blind rivet them. Quick and hassle free.

I know I know...I've debated for a long time about whether to bend or make ribs.

I'm going to try bending first. It seems some people have success with it and others don't. I'm going to try it. If it looks like crap, I'll cut them off and make ribs.

Scotch makes a couple of varieties of two-sided tape. One that is permanent and one that is removable. The removable one will work just fine. Whatever you use, grab some of the same thickness sheet from the scraps that Van's gives you and practice a bit. I used a piece of wood that I cut to the right angle, then clamped it down on the tab skin along with the double sided tape. A bit of bending with another piece of hardwood, then a bit of tapping with a rivet gun got a perfect bend.
