New idea?

Post by cjensen »

anybody ever come up with this one before? did this on the elevator skins.

i thought this was brilliant! :bang: but boy, is it a pain in the arse to do. my fingers hurt, and it is VERY time consuming! i wanted a better way to protect my skins in case i go with one of my paint schemes that will leave the wings and HS polished. i just used the soldering gun to draw little circles around each rivet hole, and peeled 'em off with my fingers. my index and middle fingers are sore tonight. :(

Ha! Well Chad, No... I don't think anyone has ever done that (or at least wanted to share) before!

A combination of polished and painted parts, huh? I LIKE the sounds of that! I am not taking it from you because I don't want that kind of maintenance but, I sure would like to see it!

That looks like a real noun used as a verb. I have also given thought to bare metal and paint. After having put a few not so pretty, shall we say blemishes, on my skins my thinking is to go with a bright silver or gray paint in the areas that would be bare metal.

Keep the polish in mind Chad. My 8 is going to be polished with paint trim. Polished metal is too nice to cover-up...........Larry

polished wings and hs is my #1 idea right now. i LOVE polished airplanes! i know they are a lot of work, but it would be worth the effort to me. my fuse will be painted, but that design is top secret at this point!!

Chad, maybe painting the bottoms would be wise. I like them as much as the next guy but the thoughts of creeping around underneath polishing just doesn't sound entertaining to me!

down the road at the shows, if i start complaining to you guys about polished surfaces, just put me in my place. it's my fault. i'll remember this.

That's what they make creepers for, laying around under the plane all day. I have a polished Skymaster with AF markings painted on, not too hard to take care of as long as you keep it up. It helps if they're kept inside..........Larry
