Seats

Post by Wicked Stick »

A quick pick of my son Chris, testing out the new leather pilot seats.
He found them very comfy, but he was hoping I had installed the stick so he could have done some hangar/garage flying.

Here's a side shot of them both.

I bought the Van's seat cushions, and then ordered the leather.
I cut out the patterns, then had a local upholstery shop do the sewing.

He only charged me $240.00 to do them.

Dave,

Those seats look great!

Did the Van's cushions come with patterns, or did you do those yourself?

Dave, now I remember you talking about buying some hides at one point. They really do look great. I may go that way myself instead of the high priced ready built stuff. Your's look wonderful.

I agree with everyone above! Those are SWEET!!

So you had them sewn for $240...what did the leather run??? Just trying to see what the real savings is...The seat patterns from Van's are $295 for the 8, so you're at $535 plus the cost of the leather.

I'm just curious...it may be the way to go! 8)

I'll have to look up the leather cost. I know I had to buy it by the "Hide" so I ended up with some left over on the gray, but used all of the black.

I was going to go with Abbey, but the wait time was enormous.

Ok, Here's the price break:
Leather hides (1 black, 1 gray); $400 (includes shipping)
Labor for Local Upholster; $240 (includes tip)
Van's Foam Seat Kit with Pattern cut-outs; $295

So in total I paid $935 bucks.
(If I went with a single color seat, it would have been about $200 less.)

Leather seats at Classic Aero was about $100 more, but again a really long wait time :(
