Canopy Frame & Latch progress

Post by Wicked Stick »

This past week and weekend, I have been working on the canopy frame and latching mechanism. I temporarily glued some wide popsicle sticks to the side frames to aid in judging alignment of the canopy frame and track rails.

Next I adjusted the forward/aft position to align the canopy frame with the roll bar. I was able to get a nice even gap of about 1/4 inch and alignment side to side appears nicely centered.

The Canopy latching assembly is a little hard to figure out at first on the plans, so I took a few pictures of mine, posted below to help other builders.

Dave, Looks awesome!

Say, hindsight being as clear as it is, why didn't you powdercoat that stuff all red too?

Oversight on my part CJ, I forgot about it as it was up in the loft above the garage at the time. I might have them powder coat it black, but will most likely go Red, same as the rest.

Dave,

That looks good. I'm working on mine as well. Have you adjusted the back of the frame yet. Van's says it should be about 5/8"-3/4" above the track. Mine is about 2" right now. That is a lot of adjustment and I wonder how to do it so that it makes a smooth curve rather than a sharp bend in one location.

Well as you know I'm doing a 7 but my work these days is in the same canopy area. Looks good Dave, I like the whole white red contrast thing you have goin I vote to leave it. Black would be good to but Red???? a little much I'm thinkin.
