8 Upside-Down on Saw-Horsies (or Right-Side Up)

Post by briand »

OK, I now this is a lame topic but I want to get some more discussions goin on here. Anyone worried about a sag in the middle of their fuse when its only supported on the two ends.

Are you talking about the fuse in the clecoed-together stage or once it's riveted together?

Once my RV-4 fuse was riveted together and I popped off the jig (back in the pre-dawn history of RV building) it was pretty sturdy. Semi-monocoque custruction is designed to be self-supporting. Still, it sure wouldn't hurt to have a little support in the middle.

I'm only worried about any sag happening when I crawl into the fuse to do some work. Without me in it, there can't be any more then 20 lbs worth of weight on the tail sawhorse. I don't think it's worth worrying about.

Riveted together, like when you have to flip it over to install the LG, NOT from the pre-punched era.

You mean like it normally sits on it gear. Supported at only 2 points. I wouldn't worry too much.

Exactly, only upside-down, without the top skins riveted.

I'm not too worried but thought I would throw it out there.

Yep, it should be fine. Riveted together would be no problem.
