Vans Firewall forward kit with Silver Hawk Fuel Injection

Post by jetjoc »

Does anyone know if the cables/ hoses in the Firewall Forward kit will fit the Precision Airmotive SilverHawk EX servo(horiz induction)? Otherwise I will have to have them made up i guess.
Thanks
Al

Al-

I have a precision vertical induction fuel controller on my IO-360. The stock cables for throttle/mixture didn't work for me, but some other of the cables Van's has did work. I ended up eating the 20% restocking fee, but I didn't have to end up with custom cables. I say start with the FWF cables, and work from there. You gotta start somewhere!

What varies all too often is the placement of the holes through the firewall.
I had started with lengths recommended by another builder with my setup, but I was still not happy with two of those lengths and ended up with Non-Std cable lengths for the Throttle, Mix, and Prop.

Given that I did place the other items in their stock locations, the hoses and ss lines from the kit did fit as advertised with the exception of the ss lines to the oil cooler. I decided to make my own for those and the lengths did vary from what van's were even though i used the stock location.

Mike has good advice about "start with what they give you and go from there". It's either that or omit them and roll your own.

Thanks, Dave. :) :)
Do you have the SilverHawk EX? Did you have to change anything on the servo?(linkage, or rotate the servo etc)?
Thanks

I have the EX and did change things around a little for a better fit.

I moved the fuel outlet elbow to the bottom so I could route a line to my red cube flow meter. I had to make my own bracket for the throttle cause I went with Superior's cold air sump, which in turn required the need for me to alter the mixture belcrank mounting....etc. etc.

But that's just the fun of building your own experimental airplane ;).

I was afraid of that. So you must have rotated the servo 180 degrees? I have the same sump as you as well, and the red cube fuel flow sensor for the Dynon. Do you happen to have any pictures?
Thanks

I did not rotate the servo. Will have to look for pics and post if I find some.
