I've flown tailwheel airplane (Citabrias) and nose wheel similar to the RVs (Grumman Tigers) and I prefere the nose wheel. I don't want to pay for the additional insurance that the tailwheel costs. All tailwheel planes that I know of have groundlooped at least once. Ya the the nose wheel may or may not (I think the jury is still out on this one) have a breakage problem. But I can almost promise that a tailwheel plane will ground loop at least once in its life.

I live in the California mountains and I have never had the need for a tailwheel for any landing strip.

But I will agree that the tailwheel does look sexier. But once your off the runway there's not much difference. I feel the safety of the nose wheel to be better.

I'm about 25 minutes NW of Boulder in the mountains near Ward, CO (my brother's address is Ward, but we're probably closer to Jamestown)
Just a few miles east of the Peak-to-Peak hwy north of Nederland.

Howdy all,

Thought maybe I would piggyback on this one as well. Just got my -8 emp kit last week (ebay purchase) and spent 2 nights inventorying. Now I'm working on collecting the tools that I need -- Anyone know of good used/refurb tool sites?

BTW, my name is Steve and I'm in Tampa, FL... Ya'll know of anyone in my area building at all?

Anyone have plans for Sun N Fun?

I'm looking forward to participating in all the fun!

I'm pretty much a newbie here also and am working on a 7A. As far as used tools I've picked a few things up off of Ebay and got a pne squeezer from The Yard http://www.yardstore.com/, decent price for a rebuilt. Other than that I have ended up buying quite a bit of stuff from Cleaveland Tool http://www.cleavelandtool.com/ and have been very pleased with the quality and fair prices. I bought a cheaper tool set and would not recommend that as I have found several of the items not up to par.

Again, welcome and have fun on the new project.

Another place I have found for tools is http://browntool.com/. Good prices, great selection of high quality tooling. If you order from them, but someone has it cheaper on another site, they will meet the price.

Best prices I have found for drill bits though is Grainger.

Thanks for the tool suggestions and well wishes! Work has been a bear, so I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to the 'bangers.

Captain_John, my emp came out of Dallas Texas -- had been on ebay and I was second highest bidder, then the high bidder apparently backed out because he thought it was a model aircraft, so I got it on second chance for my original bid.

On the tool front, I've amassed just about everything I need except for the rivet squeezer (I'm planning on going with the 'main squeeze' from Cleaveland... had a chance to try it out at SNF 2 years ago and after taking the sportair class and using the standard squeezers, I think it's a no-brainer). Avery had a great show sale for SNF, so I got just about everything there. I did manage to find used Clecos for 0.25each and they are in really good condition... I'll have to go back through my email and I'll post the link.

I'd be happy to post an SNF report... should I start a new topic for it? Anything specific anyone wants to hear about? I've got some good pix (and a lot of RV questions to think about)...
