RV-8's with 200HP engines

Post by clreding »

Quick question, How many RV-8's out there have the 200hp fuel injected engine with the battery in the rear?

RV-8 wth 200 HP engine

Post by clreding »

:?
I realized i should post why I am asking. I feel like I am missing something
:?

Right now my plan is to install an io360 or 375 on the RV-8.

I weigh about 210 (could use to loose another 30 lbs or so) i have read that with a heavy person and the big engine up front, the battery needs to go in the rear. I would love to see someone post their RV-8 configuration and weight and balance sheets so I could do better diligence with this.

I am about to run the fuel lines and power for the plane and in reviewing the plans from Vans i can find no clear documentation on drilling the lines for fuel and electricity through the gear towers so I sent a note to Vans;

"I'm running the fuel lines for the RV-8. Drawing 82 shows 2 lines going through the left gear tower from the airflow pump, drawing op-11 appears to route a #2 wire through the tooling hole in the rear of the left tower after enlarging it (detail e). There are 2 large holes in the front of the gear tower one tooling hole, there is one large hole and one tooling hole in the rear of the gear tower (see attached photos) I can't find any clear documentation on holes for the fuel lines. I'm sure it's there but I just can't find it. Thanks for your help"

The reply; "I don't think the info is there - I don't see it on any dwgs and we
have no 8 with that arrangement here to look at. You will only use
the hole for the #2 wire if you have the battery on the rear (only
wirth the 200hp angle valve engine, so this is uncommon). So that
hole could be used for the return line in most cases.

If you're using that hole for the battery cable, you can drill out
the tooling hole, and make another hole adjacent to it, similar to
the pattern in the forward part. Or move the second hole outboard a
little to make it more in line with the selector valve."

This got me thinking , am i really doing something that unusual?:?:

Am I missing something and need to change my plan :bang:

Hi Craig,

I sent you an e-mail with a copy of my W&B scenarios on it.
Hopefully this will help you to make your decision.
