HELP! Aft Fuse J-Channels

Post by smithhb »

Tonight I decided to cut my J-channels to the correct length and pulled out the taped bundle of six stiffeners. The only problem is they are all 72" long. Kinda tough to cut them to 50 3/16", 88 7/16" and 94 5/16".

Am I missing something or has Vans shipped me the wrong length J-channels?

You should have gotten two monster lenghts of it when you got your wing kit. They were packaged in the spar crate.

HELP! Aft Fuse J-Channels

Post by smithhb »

I did...and I used them in the wings.  The aft fuselage requires 6 stringers that are included in the fuse kit.  They are supposed to be 96" but mine were 72".  I called Vans this morning and they are investigating the problem...They are supposed to be calling me back soon.

Thats interesting. The documentation that came in my wing kit said to absolutely save those big stringers for the fuse kit. Oh wait, you are talking about the J channel used in the top of the wing ribs mid span? I thought you were talking about the long aluminum angle provided. If so I apologize about the confusion.

Bret,

Yah... if you didn't gey some long J-Stringers with your kit, you will certainly need 'em!

Have you checked your inventory list when you unpacked your kit? You may have just seen 6 stringers and went on to the next item.

Probably the case...

Vans again

Post by smithhb »

Yeah, problem solved. Vans shipped me the wrong length J-channels. The correct ones are being shipped via FedEx...should have them in a month or so.

I may just use this opportunity to try out my new stringer stretcher which I bought at Sun N Fun.

Do your center section!

Don't waste the time!

Brake pedals and seat backs are good too!

Yep, with the wifey having the girls up this weekend for Mom's Day activities and sleepover, I'll be camping out in the shop hovering over the Center Section with a fridge full of beer... :drink:
