I posted this question in the VAF forum, and got one response, so I thought I would come to the REAL source of intellect...Rivetbangers! How's that for blind faith?!
Anyway, my throtttle knob, as well as the rigid shaft it is attached to, spins around with litte or no resistance when the throttle is unlocked. I feel no slop on advancing or retarding the throttle. Just that the knob spins around. The connection at the carb is secure, and like I said, there is no friction at all to spin the knob, so the cable is not spinning either.
I am not familiar with how the rigid shaft connects to the flexible cable since that is up inside the sheath of the cable. My concern is that I am going to get a handful of throttle knob someday.
Any words of wisdom out there? I'll even settle for wise cracks!

Jeff, I see that you have many views on this post and no replies. That is probably because many of us here are still playing with aluminum.
Do you have some pics? I suppose that really wouldn't reveal much because a black knob is a black knob.
I dunno, but when the mixture cable in the Citabria came out... it sprang to full rich and it was a non issue. We also had a throttle cable go on one of our Worriers about 2 years ago. It too sprang to full throttle. The plane landed uneventfully at OTIS Military base here on the Cape.

I don't have any real words of wisdom here, but, regarding mixture vs. throttle cables...assuming your throttle is NOT a vernier, the two throttle knobs that I have seen apart were different. One had a set screw that would allow the knob to come off for replacement, the other had a "button" type fastener (kind of like a rivet) inside. If that's loose, it's probably not going to come off, just an annoyance. If it's a set screw, ya need to find it, and get it tight again...
That may not help, but those are the one's I've seen at work.

The one on my Cessna spins I believe. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

Thanks guys. I think I am going to just keep an eye on it for now.
