Hi all

I need some help please! Wasn't sure which section to post, so gambled on here!!

I'm at the stage of plumbing my '8 together now, and I've been looking at the Andair fuel selector. I have an IO-360.....and I have NO idea which selector to get with what fittings!! I'm totally clueless!!

Also, would people recommend getting the Andair fuel pump package too or will the vans one suffice? Are they easily compatible with each other or would it be best to stick to Andair.

Any help gratefully received......sorry for needing spoon feeding!!!

I just sent an email over to Andair. I have a pump from the early lot that needs to be modified. See this video:

I am hoping to hear back from them soon. I REALLY like the pump, it's filter and form factor as well as it's ease of installation. The Van's (Airflow Performance) pump is large and complicated to say the least. It isn't easy to get at in your -8 and I would suggest the Andair. The one you will get will be of the new lot and should be fine.

The other one you *might* want to look ar is the efii one?

I can't help you out with which fuel selector to get. I am making a -7.

Hi Rob,

Plenty of people I know used the Van's AirFlow Performance fuel pump with the AndAir fuel selector on a RV-8. I say that getting all of the fuel lines made for this combination is some work! A few years ago I found the pump that AirFlow uses for about $100 (compared to the $300+ Van's/AirFlow charges).

The AndAir pump seems to be a very clean installation, requiring little plumbing. My only concern with the AndAir pump is it doesn't have as much time in flight as the AirFlow Performance system does.

That early batch would be a concern, I'd be interested to see what reply you get from Andair. If its positive I'll be tempted to get it all from them for ease & tidiness of installation.

As for the Selector, I've no idea exactly which one to get! :/

I just got an email from Andair right now. I am sending it back to them and they will be doing the upgrades when they get it!

I already have the pump and it has been installed. I like it's form factor and it has been getting good reviews.

I am sending it back to have the o-ring issue (from the early units) modified.

I don't want to install it permanently with a know internal issue.

I have the Andair fuel selector and the Air Flow Performance boost pump and filter. They have both worked flawlessly for me and the installation was pretty straight forward.

A shame that Andair's boost pump has run into some issues with that o-ring coming loose and blocking fuel flow.

Just looked at the Airflow site...there isn't much info that I can see about the fuel pump packages.....do you have details of what you fitted Dave please?

Rob, the Airflow pump and filter comes with everything you need to assemble it. At least mine did when I ordered it from Van's. Once assembled you just need to plumb the aluminum line going to it and the other out of it to the firewall, and then just a two wire electrical connection to it.

It comes with some tubing and fittings needed to plumb the pump, filter and bybass connections, but I'd recommend buying extra so that if you want to locate the pump or filter in a different location than what the plans call for you can.

Hadn't realised the Vans supplied one was the airflow model! Shows how closely I read the description!!!!

Many thanks; I went with the Airflow pump; Vans store says installation kit not needed if you have a pre-punched '8, which mine is. Hope it comes with some fittings! Anyhow, it worked out far cheaper!! I will still get the Andair selector though. Thanks for all the help guys!

Has anyone got experience with the Warning from AIrflow Perfromance I copied to post below?

Warning: Airflow Performance and Bendix/Precision fuel injection systems are non-returning systems. In the event that a tank is run dry in flight, an air lock will be formed on the out let of the pumps. It is possible that the auxiliary pump will not pick up fuel, as the auxiliary pump cannot create enough air pressure to over come the flow divider opening pressure, thus displacing the air and resume pumping fuel. It is not recommended to run a fuel tank dry in flight without adequate testing and proper documentation of the procedure for this operation.

Yes, I have experience with the warning and I follow it's advice. I've intentionally not let either tank run dry, so I don't have experience with what's it's warning us not to do.
