Threading the throttle cable

Post by RVNewsletter »

Scratching my head. There's a big nut on the cabin end of the throttle cable (I think the mixture cable is the same way), You can't get it off by unscrewing it because there are two other nuts down at the business end that you can't get off because of a rubber card on the cable.

The mission: Thread the throttle cable (and mixture cable) through the drilled holes in the bracket(s) that hang below the instrument panel. That nut near the knob end will not fit through.

I know there's a secret here. I might've even known what it is at one time or another; but not tonight.

I'm using different cables than you, but I had to remove the nuts and rubber shields off the engine end. Then thread everything through.

NOTE: as you remove stuff, lay it out in the exact order it came off. then try to keep track as you reinstall.

good luck

Drill a larger hole in the firewall to allow the nuts to pass.  Thread cable through the firewall then connect to each bracket at the engine and the panel.  Install an eyeball firewall fitting.  http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/eyeballfw.php

The problem isn't at the firewall and I've already drilled and installed the eyeballs. It's the bracket at the instrument panel. I need to thread the cable through that, through the bracket on the subpanel and out the firewall.
