Will this affect the Air Beetle

Post by svanarts »

AvWeb:
Aviation safety in Nigeria is taking a step forward with the announcement that the government is canceling the registration of about 300 aircraft deemed unairworthy. Some haven't had their airworthiness certificates renewed in the last five years and others are abandoned airframes scattered at various airports...
Okay RV pundits, what's the possible RV connection here?

...wasn't the Nigerian Air Force training in RV's? :? :? :?

I thought I read that in the RVator a while back. Or it could have been one of those freaky RV dreams that seem to hit me after a long night in the shop!

Exactly. I was wondering how many of these derelict aircraft sitting around Nigeria are these 60 RV-6A's that Van sent over.

RV-6T

Post by Bob Barrett »

Vans sold a number of RV-6A kits to the Nigerian Airforce for training planes. They were not the stock RV-6A but I believe they were referred to as the RV-6T. Van's had a red one that was a protype of sorts. It was at Oshkosh in the middle 1990's. I belive they had bigger rudders and vertical stablizers. There were a few differences and they were all assembled in Nigeria.

I believe the RV6T became the RV 7 as it and the 8 have the larger vertical stab and rudder. It helped solve th 6's spin problem.
