Stuff is coming in!
Hey All,
As you know, my ICOM A-210 is here. What you may not know is Advanced Flight Systems has called me to say that my AF-3500 is on the build schedule!
Woo hoo!
It kinda took me by surprise. I expected it to take longer than quoted, but they are true to form. I ordered at OSH and I should have it around Thanksgiving!
Now I need a lead on an audio panel, transponder and a Garmin 430! I also need to pony up for my Tru-Track Autopilot!
Whoa, this could run into LOOT!
Hmmmmm, time to tighten the belt!
Wait until the engine and prop bills comes in!
Here comes the expensive part!

Sounds like you have everything I need. Can I just borrow your A210 and AFS-3500 until you need it? I promise to return it!

I got my AFS-3500 last week. If you got the battery backup, you can power it up and play with it right out of the box. Mine has already buzzed around the living room. However, I was dissapointed that the RPM's didn't match the engine noises coming from my mouth!
Those are nice looking units, it is on my short list (which seems to be getting longer with all these new units appearing).

The Arinc connection has me intrigued.
The way I see it, the Arinc output of the GPS needs to go to the AF-3500 and some other stuff like the ICOM A-210 (for frequency nomination), the 406 mhz. EPIRB (for discrete traceability) and maybe the autopilot (for approach modes and holding?) too?
Anyone able to shed some light on this one for me?

Here's my take on the ARINC connection - is is nothing but a differential one way communications bus. There is a pair of wires to transmit or receive. One set of transmit wires can be bussed to as many receivers as you want.captain_john wrote:The Arinc connection has me intrigued.

As far as I know, the ICOM 210 only takes serial GPS input data. You're 430 should push this out.
Now, if you want the GPS data to be coupled to a Artex 406 ELT, you need to buy a ELT/NAV Interface box that takes the Serial or ARINC GPS position and feeds it to the ELT. The kicker is this little box is more than the ELT itself! ACS has it listed for $1500!
