Dipstick tube

Post by svanarts »

I thought I saw that someone bought a short dipstick tube for their engine but a search of the forums has turned up empty. Anyone got a good source for shorter dipstick tubes?

Dip stick tubes

Post by James Ball »

ECi has them in the following overall lengths;

13 1/2 " P/N AEL12790
11 1/4 " AEL75767-1
5 1/8 " AEL75761
3 " AEL22780

3/4 of the overall length is the male thread that goes into the crankcase. The other end is female thread to accept the AEL14860 or equivalent gage.

My dipstick is long enough, but it's blank. I will have to notch it and mark it with 4, 6, 8 quart markings when I fill it for the first time.

Anyone got any good ideas on a way to do that ?

I haven't tried this, but it could work. Use a file or dremel cutoff wheel to make a line for the quart markings in the dipstick. To be fancy, you could buy a set of numbered stamps (i.e. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... number=800 ) to put the number on. You might have to heat up the dipstick with a blowtorch to get the numbers to imprint successfully. Worst case, if you screw up, its a cheap fix!

I put two quarts in my sump and then made a scratch where that was. Then added two more quarts and made another scratch. And so on.

CJ, do you think they are small enough to have the number fit on a 1/8" thick dipstick rod ? If so, that's great, I'd love to borrow them.

I do.

They are 1/8" and should be fine.
