Wings mounted for good

Post by Wicked Stick »

With the help of my two sons Jeff and Chris (laying on the chair), I was able to install the wings on my RV-8 today.

Getting the NAS close tolerance spar bolts in was fairly straight forward. First I put the wings on with the drift pins and hardware store bolts and then I lubricated the close tolerance bolts and tapped them in with a small dead blow hammer while my older son wiggled/jiggled the wing around a little as I tapped them in. I didn't bother freezing the bolts and at room temperature they went in just fine.

Congrats Dave. It must be a real joy to work on that with your sons. I look forward to hearing about their first flights in it.

Nice going, Dave!

I'm ready to mate my wings for the first time. It makes me really look forward to the day they go on for good.

Congratulations WS. It is sure a lot easier to install the wings on a Tail Dragger than an RV-6A. I had the misfortune of having to do it at least one more time than normal :bang: :bang: Is there a chance you will be able to fly it yet this year? For your sake I hope so!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

I just finished wiring the wingtip stuff today. (LL, Strobes, Nav Lights and the archer antennas.

I hope to be flying it middle of September if all goes well.
