Kind of nice to build from the inside out. Exactly opposite of the RV. I won't skin it until everything else is done.

Okay, finally have a few pictures of what I've been doing on the Coyote.

I've spent the last week getting the tailfeathers built and installed. I have one brace wire that doesn't fit. I'll work that out tomorrow. The cross tubes are also missing from the rudder. I'll have to cut those out tomorrow as well.

Image

Also fabricated the elevator pushrod tube and installed the control stops.

Onces I get all these mechanicals working and get all the other internal stuff installed like battery boxes, antenna mounts, etc, I'll move on to covering.

Good progress. That sure seems to be a good quality kit. Some of the weld look really sweet. You are going to fly that thing before we know it. How is the son enjoying the project?

He's kind of slacked off a bit. I need to get him more involved.

Covered the elevators this past week. That color (red? tomato? ketchup?) and black stripes is what the final colors will be.

Image

The elevators gave me a taste of what's to come. The first one took me an entire day. The second one took me 30 minutes. They are basically like a pillow case. You disassemble the elevator tubes and then slide them in the skin. Then you reassemble the elevator tubes inside the skin and afterwards try to fish a crosspiece down through the slots into the middle to brace the front and rear spars. Luckily I won't have to do this again until I get to the flaps and ailerons, the other flight surfaces are easier to cover.

Except the wings. :|

Boy Scott, that looks great! Are these envelopes already that color of red or did you paint them? Did you heat-shrink them as well?

Just like a model, once you cover everything, the project really starts to look like an airplane!

All pre-sewn and color. After stretching over the frame, you heat them to shrink the wrinkles out of it. Then clear coat to really protect the fabric and slick them up.

As Brian said, they are pre-sewn, pre-colored. You pick your colors when you order the kit. One of the reasons I went with an ES model. My colors will eventually resemble this:

That's really coming along fast, looks good Scott. Have you put more time in building this than that one set of elevators ? Bet it feels good to see so much progress.

Actually I got to this point in the same amount of time as it took me to build the entire empenage for the RV-7. It's been pretty slow going lately because of time constraints but the pace should pick up again soon.

Actually this thing is going together almost like leggos compared to the RV. I really haven't been doing all that much. It just really goes together fast.
