is this spray gun ok?

Post by Jeff Bearden »

want to know if my spray gun is usable.

i set up a clean air line for spray priming, and then bought an el cheapo spray gun from hft. the gun has some oil on the internal parts apparently for lube or preservation from the manufacturer.

is this normal? can i clean the gun maybe by spraying some mek or alcohol through it?

thanks for any newbie education...

I also have elcheapo gun from HF that I use for priming only. Run some acetone through it to clean it. Then play with water and cardboard to test out the spray patterns and adjustments.

Don't disassemble it!

I had one of the HF guns too... it worked fine until I decided to take it apart to clean it (thoroughly). The seals they use on the HF guns are some sort of fiber, and mine fell apart on disassembly/reassembly. Problem is, you can't get replacements from HF. I ended up having to replace the gun after that (went with a Sharpe).

Anywhoo, I posted a few links for spray gun tips on my web site, go here... http://www.rv7factory.com/resources.html

Like John said, playing with H2O is a good idea but just make sure to run some acetone or lacquer thinner through the gun when you are done.
