empennage has been ordered!

Post by tmbg »

I got my preview plans yesterday, but somehow they sent me the 8/8A plans instead of the 7/7A plans. I just faxed in an order form for the 7 empennage, with a set of 7 plans, and electric trim. I guess I'll just have two sets of plans? Or should I bother with calling them and trying to return the 8/8A plans?

Anyway, I faxed in the order, do I need to do anything to follow up and make sure it gets shipped in a timely fashion?

I do not believe that I called with a follow up. However, I would call and let them know about the Plans screwup.

I would call them about the plans. I originally had a set of RV9A plans and decided I wanted a 7A instead. The ytold me to just send the 9A plans back and gave me a full refund on them. It gave me a little more cleco money.

I've followed up with all my big orders because I HAVE to know they got that fax. Drives me nuts that they don't have any sort of confirmation on orders. Everybody confirms orders with email these days.

I'd definitely call on the plans. The only plans you'll get with the empennage is the empennage plans. You don't get a whole set of plans with your emp. Each subkit will come with it's most current set, and you replace the plans that come with the preview plans version. You need to exchange those 8 plans.

You will need what comes in the correct preview plans so you can look ahead at drawings you don't have the kit for yet. I ended up talking to someone in their shipping department before my emp was shipped. I had asked for ground shipping thinking it would be much cheaper, which was going to cost almost the same as two day FedEx due to the rate Van's get from FedEx. They switched it to the two day service and I had my emp boxes really quick. I agree with Chad about needing to know, I noticed my credit card got charged for my wings but didn't hear anything from Van's, so a week later I phoned and got the tracking number (they are somewhere between Chicago and Buffalo right now). Don't forget to check between all the layers of cardboard.

Do you have a builder number yet. If it starts with an 8 Van thinks you're building an 8 if it starts with a 7 then they think you're building a 7 and so on. I'd get myself the right set of plans.

no, I don't have a builder number yet. I am getting the 7 plans, I just marked that I wanted a set of plans when I faxed in the form for the 7 empennage, and then I called them yesterday, they said to just send the 8 plans back when I get the 7 plans.

Keep the -8 plans; 'cause it would be much simpler if you just go ahead and build BOTH the -7 and the -8! :P

I've thought about building another RV but if I do I think I'll go for a 3.
