Polished my firewall

Post by cjensen »

Over the last several weeks, I've been working on polishing my firewall. I started with some stuff called Nevr Dull, then worked thru the three step rouges (I used the second two...the first is for well worn or rusted metal) from Caswell, and finally the Caswell liquid stainless steel polish.

It went from this-

To this!

The Caswell kit is $50, and does a fantastic job!

Chad, you mentioned that you did this over the phone but the picture looks GREAT!

Awesome job!

The red mount will contrast well!

Haven't you got some riveting to do ? :)

Chad, I like your brake pedals. Are they powder coated? I've been wondering what to do with mine - polish them or paint. Seems like the paint would wear at some point, but powder coating might be an answer.

My brake pedals are just painted red. I think it will wear off over time, but I also think that polished or powder coated pedals would be slick with wet soles. :? I'm just gonna see how the paint goes for now...

Thanks Willy! No, I'm not building a show plane...I just get these ideas that "hmm, that might look kinda neat", and try it. Since I'm not on ANY kind of schedule to get this thing done, I'm trying some unique touches to "make it mine".

BTW...I hope we can ALL park next to one another one day!!

That looks great Chad. I might just polish mine up too. You know the firewall is one mistake I made. When I got mine it had a small little crease in the upper right corner, nothing big and for sure not a structural problem and I didn;t screech about it to Van's. I've kicked myself several times for not requesting a different one before getting it all riveted together. :bang: :bang:

Oh well, live and learn.

I agree, that polished firewall should be easier to clean too.

That will be fun when we all get done and can get together at a RB flyin and have a row of planes setting there that were built by the group. I'll feel like I know each plane individually.
