wingtip stiffener

Post by hydroguy2 »

Trying to finish up my wings and get some paint on them. I attached the tips with piano hinges(thanks Chad and Mike). But have 1 Q.

Wing stiffeners?

Seems like the installation of ribs in the wingtips is random. I've heard some get installed spanwise, chordwise and even just 3/4" tall stiffeners.

My tips are very flexible and am certain oilcanning will happen. So what's the best....easiest method for stiffening these babies. Let's see some pics.

I'm on my phone posting this so I can't post a pic right now (will later), but I did chordwise ribs (one per side) made from polystyrene, 'glassed in.

thanks Chad, I've seen your pics. Looks good, but was wondering if I could get by with less rib.

Chad, you're probably right. for the time, weight and effort, might as well toss it in there.

does it need to be glassed in fully?

Yep, I glassed it front to back, and top to bottom, and side to side...
