Bottom line is that life's too short to be responsible ALL the time. We're looking to be out of seats before the -7 is done also. Guess I'll just have to man up and back it up with a -10 :dunno:

That is just a friendly little jab towards cjensen that goes back awhile because of his choice of fruity flavored beers.

No regrets!!!!!!!!

Post by Bob Barrett »

I wish I had finished building my airplane before my Brother died because he was a WWII fighter pilot and flew until about four years ago. Unfortunately I lost my medical five years ago but I still enjoying flying in my RV-6A with someone else at the controls. I have given all three of our adult children's rides in a C-172 and seven of our eight grand children. Now a friend will have to give them rides in my RV-6A but I know I will enjoy watching them and discussing their rides. I hope to be able to make some more long trips with it and my the three guys who are insured to fly N 784TB for me. Yes there were some down days in the building process but there are no regrets. Spike you child will grow up flying in a plane their Mother and Dad built. Both Pattie and you will be able to share that with them! Maryland is a far distance from Minnesota but if our travels ever take us East of Wisconsin we will give you each a ride! Keep pounding those rivets. N 784TB has been flying since 5/9/09 and the test period ended on 6/12/09. We now have 65 hours on it. You will never regret building!!!! :) Good luck on the adoption process! Our eight grand child was adopted and when he is three or four he will get his first ride in the airplane :) :)

You will never regret building an RV. What you certainly *will* regret is not building one.

Well here's my 2c. Though I'm not a builder (yet - still a dreamer), I have adopted my son and have two daughters we had the standard way and I'd like to share my perspective on this topic. Having children definately changes your mindset on life and priorities - I can't even remember who I was before I had kids, trite but true. That said, having kids doesn't mean you don't get to do fun things any more, you just have more loved ones to share them with, but one thing you learn is patience - learn fast. A 10 minute job WILL take all day, though I suspect a few builders have already experienced that without kids "helping". A friend jokes that you estimate the time required, double it and go to the next larger unit. In the end what you want to do will take longer, but it will be more fun to share with the family. More free advice - nothing floats my boat better than when the kids are impressed with the old man. My free advice would be to continue what you're doing and expect some bumps, but that's life. I got one last night while working on finishing our attic to make a bedroom for our oldest when she screamed up the stairs DADDY COME QUICK, LUKE'S CHOKING. Lessons learned 1> A 42 year old can descend a flight of stairs in 2 s. without tripping, 2> A penny can be successfully swallowed by a 7 yo. 3> And it will uhm, work out ok in the end.

I say keep building and plan to share your joy.

Best wishes.

Building a 9A with too much fuel and too much engine - should drop dead any minute now.

Someone please talk some sense into him, because I just don't seem to be able to do it.
Spike, I'd say you have your priorities in exactly the right order. But it's easy to see this as an either/or proposition - and it isn't, or at least it doesn't have to be. I have the same problem, I'd really like to be done and have something to fly but life always seems to get in the way of all the plans we make.

In the end, we set priorities - family first, project second - and I work hard to not get down when it seems like the airplane will never get finished, or when I wonder how we'll pay for an engine and prop when we have a daughter starting college in two years, or when my wife's car craps itself.

I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work.

I never post this much...it must be the cold medicine I'm taking. :o

I have been pushing forward. Its just a tough thing sometimes when I think of what the cost of the project is. I am happy to report though that I have been making stellar progress as of late. If I had been keeping this pace since when I started I would have been flying long ago. Oh well, baby step *snicker*
