Chad - what's this?

Post by tshort »

I think you may have posted before, but whose airplane is this?

Any idea what the white thing is hanging below the right wing?

That's Robby Knox's RV-8. He posts on RB on occasion. If I remember correctly, the white fin is a transponder antenna as WS mentioned. I'm sure Robby will check in shortly, and answer any questions. Another flying RVer with a big heart, a HUGE passion for RV's, and the man can put away a few! :drink:

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL RV-8!!!

Actually, it MAY be a Piper style pitot!

Some people say that the Xponder signal will make you shoot blanks and come down with cancer and what not, so they locate it away from the cockpit.

So far it hasn't bothered... hasn't bothered... hasn't bothered... ME!

I'm pretty sure he said it was the xponder antenna when we were walking around it. Somebody asked about it.

Plus, you can see the mondo Gretz heated pitot on the other side...

Yep...he didn't like it. It doesn't quite fit right, and he didn't like dealing with the company. If you look with a super sharp eye head on, one of the inlets is lower than the other. I could hardly tell, and I stared at it for several minutes, but it's off a slight bit. I still plan to use one though...

Well, we got another guy here on the Cape that doesn't like the way his SJ cowl fits either!

Also... it requires a prop extension. Another questionable item.

Me? I don't see the need.

Chad, I though you were SAVING money on this plane!

Why are you going all out on this item!?!?

A few things here and there I'm going for. I really love how the SJ cowl looks. I don't mind the extension since I'll be using a three blade Catto. The price difference isn't all that great. Van's credits $825 for their cowl, and the SJ cowl is $950. What's $75 for better looks (my opinion), and MAYBE a few more knots... 8)

The problem with poking a weathervane is that it just ends up spinning around!
