What are you going to do in '07?

Post by cjensen »

Along the lines of the '06 Holiday Challenge...

What are your forecast/goals for 2007? (Remember to check this thread on December 31, 2007)

Mine is fairly simple since I'm expecting my fuselage in a few days or so. I hope/expect to have the canoe flipped by the end of '07. I think that is doable as I have two years planned for completion of the fuselage.

I really expect to be doing wiring and fluid lines (fingers crossed)!

People don't plan to fail, they fail to plan! Without a plan, how can you reach a goal!?!

My original plan back in January 2003 was to have my (all slow build) RV-8 ready to fly Phase 1 in 4 years. I finished the tail kit in about 4.5 months, and had my wing kit ordered and at my doorstep in June of 03.
I figured I was well on my way to reaching my goal and in April of 2004, I ordered my fuselage kit.

The fuselage kit has proven to be the most time consuming kit of them all to complete (slow build). By the begining of 2005, life in general also had slowed down the amount of time I could devote to the project. Working 2 jobs, spending more quality time with my wife and 2 sons (very important) and volunteering my time as an assistant little leauge coach all contributed to an extended lapse in my timeline.

2007 is looking better though, so hopefully I can make some real progress this winter and into the spring. If possible, my new goal is to have it ready to fly by the Fall of this year. I'll definately need the help of CJ's expertise on the wiring though.

I want to sell this house so I can move into the house where the shop is!

Hopefully I can get the fuse done to the point where I can finalize engine / avionics at OSH '07 and maybe order some stuff.

Other than that, I plan to fly the heck out of the 170 and build tailwheel time. As many grass strips as possible once the weather warms up!

I'm first going to finish my shop that I have been working on for the last two months, which is a single car garage that was FULL of stuff, had one shared electrical circuit, way too little lighting, and no insulation. Then I'm going to get the tail ready for inspection, and get a good start on the wings.

Heh, you funny, I bury you under a snowdrift last :-). Actually, this winter hasn't arrived yet, no snow and the temp is suppose to reach 10C (50F) today. I'm making the garage so I can still work in there when it hits -15C (5F) outside which it often does at night, just not this year so far.

This has been a light winter for us in Minnesota too! Our pond was still open two weeks ago and we still don't have any snow to speak of.

No that I've posted this, I'm sure it will drop down below zero F where it's supposed to be! :|

Isn't it GREAT!?!

The heating days are soooo few!

Just a guess, but I would bet that my heat MAY have called on only a few times this season during the days while I am at school.

I have a setback thermostat in both the house and garage and the money that they have saved me is HUGE!

Working in the garage is a TREAT!

I could do with another month of weather like this!

My goal is to finish the empennage kit that's been floating around in various states since summer of 2005. Yeah. Stuck on the elevators and rudders. and avoiding priming. Also order the QB Fuse/wings before the end of next month.

OK, I hate to make schedules or comitments for the RV. It makes it feel too much like work, and it really bums me out if I miss. I'm doing this for fun ... as long as I make steady progress, I'm happy. :P

But anywoo, I'll set some umm ... "guidelines" ... for this year. I want to finish the wings and get the fuse ordered by May. Then make some serious progress on the fuse before the end of the year. That's a plan without too much commitment.

Non-RV-wise, the house needs a new roof, and I want to learn to play the guitar.

my new year's resolution for '07 was to get started on an RV. In fact, that's been my goal since august... I was saying 'after the first of the year, when my finances allow it, I'm DOING IT.

Well, I'm DOING IT :D

SO.....

December 31st has come and gone...and it's a year and a day after I started this thread.

How did everyone do?

I met my goal much easier than anticipated. The fuselage was flipped over the summer, and was more or less finished by the end of November.

Look for a new thread for 2008 goals!
