In my frustration, I recalled having some cherrymax rivets on the shelf that I picked up off the floor at the FBO. I said, hmmmm... never used one of these before in my plane. Maybe now is the time?
It was an oversized #30 with the appropriate length! Waaaay too lucky! I inserted it into the hole and it looked like it would be just fine, so long as I made up a sheet metal washer to provide a nice, smooth bearing surface for the formed side.
Bottom line, I am going to grab a few more of these from the FBO in various sizes and types for these oddball occasions! It worked MARVELOUSLY and I feel all warm and fuzzy about it now! I know now that when I am inverted and hanging on my Hookers, I won't come apart at the seams!
