I missed the cookout last year, but hope to make it this year if things work out.

The house we had last year is already rented.
I just got an e-mail from someone else who has a smaller house for rent.
I've sent details to Capt't John, and he is going to forward the info to Spike.
He only sent limited info, and a single picture of the outside, but it might suit our needs if we have a smaller gang this year.

As I'm planning my first pilgrimage, I find myself facing several unknowns. javascript:emoticon(':?')
Any input from experienced "Oshers" would be greatly appreciated.
Opening day: Is it a good idea to get there Monday or are things pretty crazy/crowded?
Length of Stay: Is four days a good stay? I'm thinking a week may be too long.
End of the week: Do things sort of wind down towards the end of the show (Friday - Sunday)? Do people and exhibitors pack up early?
That's all my ponderings for now. TIA for any input,

Well, this year will be my sixth in a row, and we've done the two day stay, all the way to a five day stay. I've found that two is too short, and five is PLENTY (for me anyway). Depending on my flying schedule, I always plan on three days, and four if I can.
Opening day is a great day to be there! The arrivals are unbelievable, and there will lots of announcments, and you're there to see the new stuff first. It's also the best time to be there with the "aviation/pilot" crowd. What I mean is, over the weekend of the show, there will be THOUSANDS of people there that are just "airshow" people...those that are not neccisarily pilots, but love the afternoon show and the static displays. This is great for the revenue building part of the show, but I tend to stay away from the flight line if I'm there over the weekend. You wouldn't believe the difference in the crowd gathered along the flightline on a Thursday vs. a Saturday.
For seeing the vendors, early in the week is definitely the best. They are still SOMEWHAT excited to be there. By the end of the week, they are tired, and just want to go home. Too many people will wear anyone thin (along with six or seven days of airshow noise).
I've never seen or heard of a vendor packing up early. In fact, I'm not even sure they are allowed to leave early due to their contract with the show. As far as the fly in crowd goes, Sunday will become a ghost town in the north 40, and showplane parking areas. Saturday is the BIG departure day for those that flew in to the show.
My advise: Go early (Monday or Tuesday and arrive EARLY in the day), stay four days, and bug out!

CJ and his spousal unit, and me and mine, got hotel rooms in Little Chute - northeast side of Appleton. Arrive Tuesday, depart Saturday - which means plenty of RVs and at least one day of F-22 demos

Thanks guys,
Your input is greatly appreciated. I'm not sure I'll be able to be there on Monday, but if I can, I'll shoot for that. I think I'll make mine a four day event. I did Sun-N-Fun a couple years ago, and that was a two day trip. I could have stayed a little longer, but not much.
Thanks again, hope you get a lot built over the weekend,

Ive been to the last 3 Osh's and this year it lost out for long term planning. We have started riding again and am taking some time to go see some friends this summer that he have not seen in a while.
I might be able to pull off a trip to Osh, but if I do it will be last minute. I would love to see you guys again and start looking at some avionics, etc.

Spike,
I'll make you a deal, if you go, I'll go.
A member of my local chapter is giving me an OSH Scholarship. He's offering to pay for my room and board if I just get there. I'm hoping to see you there Spike.

CJ and Dave, you guys are only gonna be 10 minutes from my place. You guys are definatley invited over for a beer or nine
Of course, this offer is extended to anyone else who wants to come on over.
Also, are we still going to the Otter this year? Let me know if I need to set this up.

FYI, the BBQ will be in the same place as last year -- and the year before that -- and it will be on Wednesday starting at 6pm. We're looking for more volunteers...especially with cooking so that the three cooks can have time to enjoy company too.
