Where should the first flyin be held?

Blatantly capitalizing on Spike's idea of a flyin... where should it be? I vote for somewhere in the middle of the continent so we could all make it.
And how about poll? WHEN should we have our first flyin?

My vote was for "Next year" 2008. Reason being...if we can arrange this, more time is always better to be prepared for a larger flyin. An airport in the middle of the county would need to be found...some place that will be MORE THAN WILLING to cooperate. Late spring/early summer flyins seem to be the biggest success, and we are already in that season for a 2007 flyin.
I'm not really in the "middle" of the country, but I do work at an FBO, and I know we would cooperate. Just food for thought....
I would also have voted for a flyin when we are ALL done with our airplanes. That would be one hell of a celebration!
This is a GREAT idea!!!

Exactly. Most of us have something to fly. Many of us are going to meet up at OSH this year anyway. That first vote was just to get it rolling. Doesn't have to be anything fancy either. Just a nice destination with food or fishing or camping or something to do as a group when we get there.

As far as the "when" is concerned, I'd like to offer up that it should be in the Fall Season. Mid October.
Why? Because it's far enough away from OSH and Sun-N-Fun, and most importantly, it's also some of the best VFR flying weather cause the air is dryer. October 2008 would be great.
I would think you could alternate each year between West Coast, Middle, and East Coast. The first, I guess somewhere in the middle would work.
Whoever does host it, should keep in mind the airport, the attractions nearby, places to stay, interesting things to do while there, etc.

My family owns several hundred acres of farmland here in central IN, and I have been talking with my parents about the possibility of putting in an airstrip out there. One of the local RV (rocket, actually) guys does excavation, and has built a couple perfect runways for others in the area.
So, if the plan comes together, in a few years we might have a great place for an RB fly in... I will keep you guys posted with the progress. I think the main obstacle to start might be the government / paperwork / bureaucracy...

As I sit here in a pilot's lounge looking for something to keep me occupied for the next six hours, I find myself staring at the Jet Navigation Chart across the room. From this point of view, I can see that Kansas City is actually just about the actual center of the country. Never noticed that before. When the corners of the country are considered, KC is the spot to have the fly in...

Tom C. and I are probably pretty close to the center here in Iowa also. We don;t have the major attractions that they would have in a place like Kansas City though. The Aero club I belong to would probably be more than happy to let us have a fly-in there but it is pretty small. Most of you folks that fly from other areas of the country would wonder where the runway was. It is a little like landing on a sidewalk but I kind of like it.
I haven't voted on when as I will probably show up no matter when it is if it is in the midwest. The coast would have to wait till I had the plane done.
Hmmm, maybe our EAA chapter would host it. They are always looking for ideas for meetings and there are a lot of RV builders in the chapter. Let me know if you want me to bounce the idea off them.

Here in central Illinois could work. We have several RV'ers here in the county. A flight up to Schaumburg in the Chicago burbs is fun - great food at Pilot Pete's. Chad and I could even host folks overnight after tossing Brittne and my wife out ''
Kansas City has got some awesome BBQ places. Arthur Bryants rocks! The downtown airport is close to everything.
Chad - there was a nice field near Indy you told me about next to a lake - Eagle something - could that work?
Fall weather is usually awesome and would have my vote for timing.

Eagle Creek is OK, I'm just not too sure about lodging around there ... it would probably be just your average motel type thing. Rick's Boatyard is a nice restaurant, right on the water.
It would be cool if we could fly in somewhere and camp or have lodging right there - like Gaston's resort ... good trout fishing, too!!
