Template vs 721B tip-up

Post by vickruis »

The bending template for the longerons on DWG 17A has a different curve compared to F-721B aft canopy deck. I should bend the longerons to match the template, but shouldn't the 721 match the longerons? :?

The longs should match the canopy deck. The canopy deck should be your "true" template because that is what you will finally be matching the long to when all is said and done.

That being said, if something isn't aligning with the drawing, perhaps the part isn't situated on the drawing correctly or the you have a left drawing and a right part situation? The drawing is in the right ballpark.

Hope this helps.

I had the same issue with the drawings not matching up with the canopy decks. When I called up Van's, they said it has to do with the printing process of the drawings and there will be variations. Their final word of advice was to match the bend with the curve of the aft canopy deck. However, be sure to be aware that there is a bend aft of the aft canopy deck that needs to be made.

What makes bending the longs so intimidating is, you have been protecting them since forever because they come in the wing kit. You are like a mother hen with these things for what seems like an eternity! Then the time comes when you actually have to form them. It seems all wrong! Ya just gotta do whatcha gotta do!

The good thing is, they unbend easily so if you do over bend...

Don't ask me how I know.

CJ-

I think I forgot where I am! Women wear Dirndl's, men wear leder hosen, you can drink beer on the streets without someone looking funny at you, and they have this festival with 100,000 people drinking liters of beer.

(yes, thats me in the straw hat)

I would ask to be saved, but I finally found a place I can call home! The RV might never get done now!

PROST!

It's because of all that alcohol you are drinking! They call it BLACKING OUT!

Sounds like you are having a great time.

What exactly is the purpose of leder hosen? Is it kinda like us wearing a tie?

Talk about a hijacked thread! Vick, did we answer your question effectively?
