to Van's tonight. The finish kit has been ordered!! Working hard to get my canoe flipped before Christmas :) Finally made a bunch of decisions; My engine will be a Mattituck TMX-360 with fuel injection, cs but set up for fixed pitch for now ( I can only write so many checks, lol) Got my name on the list with Liz James for my cowl. I'm going with their plenum and wheel pants as well.

I attended Mahlon's workshop over the weekend and was really impressed. The shop was ok, but the individuals I met there sold me. Very meticulous and open about engines, and never once tried to make a sale. I left convinced I could build my engine, but I'd feel better if the experts did it.

Still read this forum often, and the more I do the more I notice the commercial side at the other one. Kinda bums me out that a clearing house for Vans builders to share info has become a way to make a living.

Chapmaster!

Cool! Way to go! It's just a stroke of the pen and stuff comes to the door. INCREDIBLE, huh?

What I really liked about Mahlon's workshop was the fact that I couldn't finish all the food!

Glad you like it here! I do too!

Gonna get it ordered before the end of the month to avoid the price increase?

I'm gonna try to order mine, even though I'm still working on finishing up the first wing!

Thats a good though Ian. I might just do that. That will help with the motivation for the IFR rating.

I'm working through my IFR training as well... I've completed all the requirements, but I haven't done my written yet and I don't yet trust my airplane well enough to do the checkride. I started having avionics issues pretty much day one of my training. My number 2 nav radio stripped its gears and had to be sent off for overhaul, and it's back now. About the time it came back, my number 1 nav's Glideslope meter hung up and quit working. I was contemplating what to do about that, but then this weekend I flew a bunch of hard IFR, and on a localizer approach in actual, the GS started working again, and has been fine ever since.

Damn finicky old avionics.

I'd love to order the fuse - but I'm a "pay as you go" kinda guy... and don't have enough room in the garage for everything :(

... but, if I pinch pennies & rearrange stuff - who knows?
