I feel a lot better now only paying $50 more for the finish kit to get to Baltimore instead of Baton Rouge! Thanks for all of the input guys. It seems my price is about on par for what the other people have paid for this expensive kit.

Well, it looks like I win the prize! I just called Ann at Vans since my finish kit ships this week. I asked her who she had it scheduled with for shipping and the cost and she told me ABF for $787.00!

I asked her to get a quote from several others and about a half-hour later she called me back. The best price to ship from Aurora, OR to Mineral Bluff, GA is $710 using FedEx Freight.

Unbelievable!

Might be cheaper to rent a damn moving van, fly commercially out there and drive the van one way back!

My finish kit will be shipping in a few weeks. I remember when I talked to Van's about pricing for the fuse kit, she said that shipping for the finish kit was "substantially" more. I can't remember the reason, but I think it was due to the increased volume of the box. almost the same length and width, but almost 2x the height.

Good News! Someone on the RV-List suggested contacting http://www.efreightline.com. I did and they quoted $515. That is a savings of @200 dollars.

I spoke with Ann at Vans and she will contact the shipper (Saia) when the kit is ready to ship.

Whew! I feel better now.

I must have done something wrong...I used their online quoting system, and it gave me a rate estimate of $3546! HA! :o

How did you calculate Bret? :?

I used a weight of 330#. You have to convert the crate dimensions from inches (Vans site) to ft. I used 8ftL/4ftW/2ftD.

Ah! That's it...I used the dimensions in inches. So my quote was based on 97 FEET by 49 FEET by 27 FEET!!! That's a BIG box!!

Hmm...now the site won't give me a quote (says 'rate quote failed'). I have an email in to Adam. Maybe he can help. :?

They must have thought you were shipping an A380.... The extra cost was for dynamite to blow up the overpasses along the way.

Just got an email from Adam at efreightline.com, and the quote to IL is $538 using Yellow. Seems high since several of you farther east guys are getting quotes lower than that... :?

I'm really curious to hear from Van's to see what the quotes from FedEx and ABF will be.

Chad,

It all depends on which carriers serve what areas...Each has their own system for determining charges. Luck of the draw.

I checked every freightline possible during the past week, and the best anyone could do was efreightline, using Yellow Trucking at $538...FedEx is $621, ABF is $635 to my residence in IL...

...then I thought I remembered something about Tony Partain offering finish kit delivery now. I called him today, and I saved myself another $36, as they will deliver the kit for $500.

If any of you are about to recieve a finish kit, call Tony to see if he has anything going your direction. The cool thing about this, is that the crate will never leave the trailer until it's at my house...no chance of being banged up by forklifts along the way.
