Buying a used 430
Anyone got any suggestions on where I could get my hands on a 430 for a reasonable price? Doesn't have to be WAAS if the price is reasonable.[/i]

I spoke with Hans on VAF... that's a decent deal for a 430, however...
I'm trying to figure out if it's more cost effective to go new vs used.
The big problem with going new is the Garmin dealer agreement. They simply won't allow anyone to sell the equipment unless the dealer does the work. I talked to the avionics guy that's done work on my cherokee, and he quoted me $8600 for an experimental setup with a 430W and GI-106A indicator, and a basic harness, and he'd want to inspect it in the RV once it was installed.
HOWEVER, I'm wanting to put this in the cherokee for now, as I won't be ready for it in the RV for a good long while. I'm going to do the work myself, with my A&P supervising and my IA signing off the 337. I've studied the GNSS AC and the installation manuals for the equipment, and I have a pretty good handle on what needs to be done and the legality of it all.
My A&P has a buddy who is a garmin dealer/avionics shop, and he's willing to sell me the equipment, let us do all the work, and inspect it after it's done and apply for the warranty. Unfortunately, his prices aren't particularly good. The same 430W+106A combo that AvWest quoted me at $8600, this guy wants $9700 for. He wants $3795 for an SL30, and they're $3395 all over the internet.
The actual panel I have planned is a 430W, SL-30, and a 106A indicator for each (I may actually go with a mid-continent -306 indicator for the SL-30, as it has the back course annunciator the SL-30 can use, and is otherwise identical to the 106A, even in price). I'm going to put it all in my cherokee with my existing PMA-8000B audio panel.

When I buy my 430W (new) I plan on sending RFP's to Stark, Van and another avionics shop.
They say Stark has the best prices around and good support.

I'm gonna call Stark and get a quote, but none of these guys will sell me a new unit for a certified airplane without doing the install themselves, and I can't get a warranty on a new one unless the dealer signs off the installation and applies for it.

wow, stark's prices are GREAT! I'm trying to get him on the phone to see if he'll sell it without wiring. The wiring adds a couple hundred dollars, and I really want to do it all myself anyway.

Oook, that's my next question. If I buy from stark, does he have to inspect the installation in the RV before it's warranted? Or does the warranty simply take effect immediately?

No, I don't think he needs to look at it. I dunno how he would get here to look at mine, even though he is welcome to do so.

So, if I were to buy a 430W from him with a homebuilt harness, and just happened to do a legal certified installation in my cherokee via 337, and had a problem with it, is there any way Garmin could deny my warranty?
