No SJ cowl for me...

Post by cjensen »

I just talked with Will James about a cowling for my setup. No can do.

For the 7, if the long mount is used (in my case), his long cowl isn't quite long enough. Bummer. I had planned a 320 with a CS prop, but now I'm gonna go with a 360 and a lightweight Felix prop (13lbs). The CG would be similar either way, perhaps slightly better with the prop spacer included. So, I was planning SJ all along, and unknowingly shut that door when I ordered the long mount.

Now I have another problem to sort out. I can use the long Van's cowl that is built with the 320 in mind, but if I do use a 360, I have to modify the intake to match the 360 FAB. Will James does have an adapter for this, and it sounds doable without too many complications. I'm now waiting for a response from Gus at Van's about the 360 FAB fitting in the long 320 cowl.

Man, this really bums me out! :(

I win!

Chad, isn't this the configuration I said you would settle with a long time ago?

Good choice, BTW.

This combo is a good one.

Nice goin!

I almost made a comment to that effect, but I thought I'd let you chime in on this...it's not settled yet. I have to get the okay from Gus before I make the final choice. Still might be a 320...

Okay, but it ain't over until it's over and your plane is FLYING!

When that happens, we can all declare a decision being made!

This is just a minor adjustment here...not a full engine choice change. C'mon now, give me some credit! :P

In Chad's defense it is still a Lyco. Right Chad? Now next week might be a different story. Image

Sorry Chad I know you like to be poked.

Chad,

I don't know the details, but why don't you scrap the long mount and get the mount that works with the cowl you want. I know its alot of money but maybe you can sell it on one of the email lists. You work too hard and long to not build what you want.

Just my $.02 worth. I'm sure you will make the right choice.

Well, I'd be plenty happy with the 320...that's the plan. IF I can make a 360 work, I might do it.

I just got an email from Gus, and the long cowl will work, I would just need to mod the intake. Probably more work than I think it is, but it doesn't sound that bad... :dunno:

Maybe you can get what you want after all. That would be good. Like Tom said make sure you get what you'll be happy with when done. Where is Conard based? Nice looking plane.
