I'm with you. One of my favorite stories is this one. I didn't know Tom Walsh but he sounds like the greatest guy, and I would say his priorities were correct.

Nice story. The Web site hasn't been updated since the fall, though.

In mulling it over, I "talked" (email) to Marc Cook this morning and I am going to write an "Unusual Attitude" column for him for June. But it will emphasize the homebuilders who integrated building into their lives, rather than stop their lives to build. If you've got personal insight you'd like to share, send it to me, please, at bcollinsrv7a (at) comcast.net.

Thats it! Now I have to renew my subscription to Kitplanes

Bob, I believe you should definitely take Mark up on the offer and write an article for the mag. I met him at Reno last year and talked to him at length. He really struck me as a regular guy and I usually agree with his editorials.

The guard is changing in RVdom. The prepunched kit is here and now suddenly everyone is an expert. It took me 5 years to build my RV-4, locating every hole and drilling it myself. I made lots of friends online during that time. Met a lot of jerks too. I have to say that the jerk ratio is increasing. I want as many friends as possible. When I blow a tire at a strange airport, I'd like to have friends to help. I have to rely on friends because I don't have the star power that some in the RV community do.

I'm flying to another state to get my RV-4 painted in April. Who's coming along with me? An RV builder friend. If I wasn't in this to make friends, it would be a long walk back home.

I just can't bring myself sell her like that. She's going to get a nice paint job so the next guy can enjoy her. Still be up for sale this summer. Sorry, didn't mean to get any hopes up. :)

Bob -

You've starting me thinking about how I got in to RV building in the first place and why I'm here today. In truth, it was after one of my lessons with Doug Weiler (took me through my instrument rating) where I admired his then newly painted RV-4 and began asking questions. The funny thing was it wasn't the planes that did it, it was the people I met when asking more questions. It was the time Doug took, without even flinching, to show me what deburring was and how the primer goes on. It was the invite from Tom Berge's to take a ride in his newly completed RV-7A. ...and all the others I spoke to before I even ordered the tail.

Those people have become some of my closest friends and I have drifted away from the constant stream of *mostly* positive information on the web and I'm now realizing one of the reasons why.
